Periodontics and gingivitis

Periodontics is the medical term for the study and treatment of supporting structures around the teeth like gums, jaws, roots and related diseases. Periodontitis and gingivitis are two very common oral inflammatory diseases of the gums. The difference between them is that gingivitis is limited to infection of the gums but periodontics causes infection of tissues that support the teeth and bone degeneration around the teeth. Gingivitis is caused by plaque and tartar build up or by overzealous brushing.

Cure for Gum Disease: Besides the primary causes, other factors like consumption of tobacco, inheritance of genes and other ailments like diabetes is also a major factor in the development of oral diseases. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and puberty can increase the risk of susceptibility to the infection. Misaligned teeth, ill fitting and unclean dentures and bridges aid in creating an anaerobic environment inside the mouth, which helps the bacteria to flourish.
